Your hero nib can be repaired. Look around for someone to whom you can bring or send the pen.

To be fair, Noodlers has about 20(!) black inks, with all different properties. Honestly, their lineup is a marketing disaster (i.e. bewildering & overwhelming); but I do remember that in some thorough testing, at least a couple of them were actually waterproof. Some of their inks are in Jet Pens' massive black ink comparison article, if you can hunt that up.

It was lucky that acrylic ink is rarely compatible with fountain pens.

Not all Noodler’s inks misbehave. I recommend their Lexington Gray, a transparent dark gray that is absolutely waterproof and behaves well on paper and in pens. It retains its water resistance if diluted with water, so you have an option of loading this ink into waterbrushes with or without dilution. This ink layers well, and depending on how much is applied, it will go all the way into black. A favorite drawing ink, not as harsh and more flexible than black.

I've been using this pen for a good while too. I have two - one usually filled with De Artemis Brown Document Ink and the other with the grey version of the same brand. I find them excellent for life drawing. I go straight in with pen without any underdrawing. The sketchiness of line means mistakes are easy to 'remodel'. My much posher TWSBI Eco gets nowhere near as much use!

I had a smilier experience with Noodler's Black - It's waterproof on non coated or awful copy paper but on good fountain pen paper that's coated, it does not stick. Three days and it still smears on Tomoe River Paper. Noodler's should be clear because it gives people poor performance if they use it on the wrong paper. Carbon Black and Diamine Registrar's inks don't smear regardless of paper.

What a timely video (even though you made it 5 years ago.) I just started sketching with fountain pens. Not getting any better advice, I purchased 3 bottles of Noodler's ink for 3 different fountain pens. The first, Polar Black was very spidery coming out of my Pilot Falcon. I thought it was the pen, so I put purple Sheaffer Skrip ink I had into the Falcon, and no more spidering (Sheaffer Skrip is water soluble). Unfortunately, I had also ordered 2 more bottles of Noodler's bulletproof ink still thinking my Pilot Falcon was the problem, it wasn't. The next Noodler's ink is the Kiowa brown that I put into my Opus 88 Demonstrator. It was not spidery, but it's also not waterproof! The third ink is Lexington grey that I put into my Pilot Metropolitan, not spidery, and not waterproof!! I am extremely disappointed that the Noodler's isn't working because the price seemed reasonable, but it just will not work for urban sketching, and watercolor. I'm going to have to step up to R&K Sketch ink, or De Artramantis Document ink. Thank you for the advice and review.

Great video! I've been using the Rohrer & Klingner ones for quite a while now since they're the most accessable to me (literally at my local art store in contrast to the other brands named) and I'm glad they work that well with my fountain pens.
